How do I get a web store up and running?

The power of the web provides a great opportunity to capture and grow markets to effectively and efficiently sell your goods and services to customers. There are a few simple things you will require to activate this type of functionality on your website. inSync can assist you with all aspects of getting started.

The Internet Merchant Account

Your site will need an Internet Merchant Account from your bank or other credit card provider such as American Express or Diners.  The provider, upon successful application of your request, will assign you an Internet Merchant Number necessary to receive payment by Visa, MasterCard, Amex etc.

Each credit card provider will charge an on-going fee for an Internet Merchant Account.  Not all banks offer this type of facility, so it is best to check with your own in the first instance. 

The Shopping Cart

Your site requires a shopping cart on your website where customers can select goods and services they wish to purchase prior to taking it to the check out (just like a supermarket).  They will need to be able to add and remove items, see what they currently have in their cart and see the cost of the cart's contents.

Secure Check Out Facility

Your site will also need a facility where your customers provide their payment details to finalise their purchase (payment options may include Credit Cards, Direct Deposit, Purchase Order).  This area will need to be secured using a SSL certificate. An SSL encrypts all the information / credit card details that the customer enters to ensure security and integrity of this private data.

Payment Gateway Merchant Account

Your site will require a Merchant account with a Payment Gateway provider. Once your customer enters their credit card details via the check out facility, the information is sent to the Payment Gateway provider for processing. This third party provider liaises electronically with the purchaser’s bank which approves or declines the credit card transaction (with this whole process occurring in a split second).

Payment Gateway providers charge a flat fee or per transaction fee for this service. Please note that the credit card providers will also charge a transaction fee generally a percentage of the sale.
