Windows 2003 Upgrade/Migration
If your business is still on a Windows 2003 platform, mainstream support ended on 7/13/2010. Service pack updates ended in 2009. The migration path to current Microsoft technology, whether SBS, Windows or Exchange, is supported from the 2003 platform with some exceptions (see below). But as technological advances continue, and different versions become available, the upgrade path becomes much more difficult.
inSync has upgraded hundreds of Windows 2003 Servers to current technology. Call us for a free quote (949) 837-5000.
Unsupported Upgrade Scenarios
Upgrades to Windows Server 2008 R2 from the following operating systems are not supported:
- Windows NT® Server 4.0,
- Windows 2000 Server,
- Windows Server 2003 RTM,
- Windows Server 2003 with SP1,
- Windows Server 2003 Web,
- Windows Server 2008 R2 M3,
- or Windows Server 2008 R2 Beta.
With careful planning, inSync has performed many difficult upgrades
other companies would not touch.
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Virtualization
Our engineers also have extensive experience with MS Windows Server 2008 virtualizaion as well. Given the improvement of Microsoft's platforms, and the increased, yet inexpensive, power, RAM & storage of servers, the trend in the industry is to consolidate servers. If those servers have different platforms that need to be maintained, that's where the virtual environment plays a key role.
In a virtual server, the Microsoft's virtualization software provides the illusion of more than one computer, hard drive, printer, etc. Although the resources are still shared, as under the time-sharing model, virtualization provides a higher level of security as the individual virtual servers are isolated from each other.
Each virtual server can run its own full-fledged operating system and can be independently rebooted. This is valuable as it allowed businesses to run their legacy applications on older versions of an operating system on the same server as newer applications.
A recent example: One of inSync's engineers recently migrated an unstable Windows 2000 legacy system to a Windows 2008 R2 Server environment utilizing virtual technology. The client was not interested in upgrading their legacy system, they just needed it on a more stable platform to access historical data.
Other companies politely declined the project saying it was too unstable - however, armed with a detailed migration plan, we successfully completed the project, on budget and on time.
Our Microsoft experience includes:
Microsoft Small Business Server:
Designed and priced especially for small businesses with up to 75 users, Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard (SBS 2011 Standard) is a complete solution designed for customers who want enterprise-class technologies in an affordable, all-in-one suite.
The vast majority of our clients with 5 to 65 users are on the SBS platform. It's a popular solution that includes Windows Server 2008 & MS Exchange.
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2:
Windows Server 2008 R2 builds on the foundation of Windows Server 2008, expanding existing technology and adding new features to enable IT professionals to increase the reliability and flexibility of their server infrastructures.
When choosing your Windows Server 2008 platform, we do not recommend the 32-bit version as there are inherent limitations to the RAM that can be utilized in that version. We recommend, at least, the 64-bit version.
Microsoft Exchange Server 2010
Exchange's major features consist of electronic mail, calendaring, contacts and tasks; that work with Microsoft Outlook on PC and Mac, wireless synchronization of email, calendar, contacts with major mobile devices and browser-based access to information; and support for data storage.
Microsoft Virtualization
Migrating & upgrading to new technology: inSync's engineers use virtualization to deploy server applications like Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange, and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server as well as packaged and custom "Line of Business" (LOB) applications.
Our engineers also use virtual server technology to host legacy software that our clients do not intend to upgrade. It allows the legacy software to be hosted on state-of-the-art hardware, thus stabilizing the environment, while residing on an older operating system such as Windows NT.
Remote Desktop Services (formerly Terminal Services)
Remote Desktop Services (RDS) is one of the core virtualization technologies available in Windows Server 2008 R2. In addition to the traditional session virtualization scenario, Remote Desktop Services has expanded its role to provide a platform for a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI).
We also have Citrix experience - so we can determine whether RDS or Citrix is the appropriate solution for your environment and intended useage.
